Faith at Work: The Marketplace Is My Mission Field
By Partner Jason Habeeb
When people think of ministry, they often picture a church building, a pastor behind a pulpit, or a missionary serving overseas. While those are important callings that I support, I’ve come to believe that God has placed millions of believers in another mission field that we often overlook—the marketplace.
For me, that mission field is real estate.
Like many professions, real estate can easily become centered around transactions, commissions, competition, and personal success. Those things aren’t inherently wrong, but they can become the measure of our identity if we’re not careful. My faith continually reminds me that my purpose is much bigger than selling homes.
Every client, every negotiation, every difficult conversation, every networking event, and every leadership opportunity is a chance to reflect Christ.
Jesus tells us in Matthew 5:16, “Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” That verse doesn’t only apply on Sundays. It applies on Monday morning when I’m sitting across the table from a client or helping another agent solve a problem.

One of the greatest misconceptions is that faith and excellence compete with one another. I’ve found the opposite to be true. My faith compels me to pursue excellence because every interaction represents Christ. Integrity matters. Keeping my word matters. Serving people instead of simply selling to them matters. Doing the right thing when no one is watching matters. Many of these key biblical traits are exhibited in our quarterly Barnabas meetings. I’ve learned so much over the years at our meetings, and I truly see the living God working through the people in that room.
Over the years, God has given me opportunities to serve not only clients but also fellow Realtors through leadership within our local association. Those experiences have reinforced something I believe deeply: leadership is stewardship. Titles don’t exist to elevate us; they exist to equip us to serve others.
That perspective has also shaped how my wife and I have approached foster care and adoption. Walking through that journey reminded us that following Christ often means saying “yes” before we know how everything will unfold. Faith rarely grows in comfort. It grows through obedience.
The same principle applies in business.
There are moments when honesty costs you a deal. There are times when serving someone means sacrificing your own convenience. There are opportunities that look profitable but don’t align with your values. In those moments, faith becomes more than something you believe—it becomes something you practice.
Colossians 3:23 says, “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.”
That verse has become a compass for me. Whether I’m helping someone purchase their first home, mentoring another professional, serving in leadership, or simply answering a phone call, I want my work to be an act of worship.
The marketplace desperately needs Christians who don’t just speak about their faith but quietly and consistently live it. People notice integrity. They notice humility. They notice generosity. They notice peace in stressful situations. Long before someone asks what you believe, they’ve usually been watching how you live.
I don’t see my career as separate from my faith. I see it as one of the primary places God has called me to live out my faith.
Every believer has a pulpit.
For some, it’s a church stage. For others, it’s an office, a classroom, a construction site, a hospital, or a real estate closing table.
The question isn’t whether we’re in ministry.
The question is whether we’re faithful where God has placed us.
My prayer is that when people remember my career, they won’t simply remember the homes I sold or the positions I held. They’ll remember that they encountered someone who loved Jesus, served people well, and tried to honor God in every opportunity He entrusted to him.
