Darria Deatherage: A Reflection on Barnabas Sacramento
By Darria Deathereage, Barnabas PArtner & Founding Board Member
As a Charter Member and Board Member of Barnabas Sacramento—and someone who has had the privilege of helping launch this chapter—I am deeply grateful for what God is already doing through this community. From the very beginning, Barnabas has been a place where marketplace leaders gather with a shared commitment to Kingdom impact. My experience has been both inspiring and humbling.
Since joining Barnabas, I have had the blessing of building relationships with leaders who are not only accomplished in their professions, but deeply authentic in their faith and generous in their service. The spirit of encouragement, collaboration, and stewardship within this community is remarkable.
Then I Went On A JOG
Darria (right) often can be a warm smile greeting guests.
One of the most meaningful experiences for my husband, Lyndell, and me was participating in a Journey of Generosity (JOG) alongside the Carltons, Dowds, Barnetts, and McDougalls. That time was transformative for our family. It helped shape how we think about generosity—from supporting our church’s building campaign, to giving more intentionally to causes we care deeply about, to thoughtfully planning a legacy that will guide and inspire our children. I wholeheartedly encourage others to participate in a JOG; it brings planning, alignment and most importantly joy to the stewardship journey.
Ministry Impact
Through Barnabas, I have had the privilege of coming alongside impactful ministries and leaders in our region—partnering with Wendi Cross at XHope, Tom Stafford at Healing Grove, Tiffany Loeffler at the Alliance, and Steve Heller with Men in His Design, to name a few. Supporting their work and engaging in opportunities to serve has been deeply meaningful and reflects the heart of Barnabas in action. Inviting and welcoming new partners into the chapter and attending Ignite events to encourage ministries are just a few additional ways I have had the privilege to engage.
Why Barnabas Stands Out
Perhaps most encouraging has been witnessing others grow more deeply engaged, often experiencing a shift in perspective about purpose and priorities in the second half of life. It has been a joy to help invite others into Barnabas and to see how the Lord uses this community to refine hearts and redirect focus toward lasting Kingdom significance.
What continues to stand out to me is that Barnabas is not simply a network—it is a community of people who genuinely link arms to serve, encourage, and invest in one another. I am honored to be part of a group that so intentionally supports ministries and leaders making a tangible difference in our region.
I am grateful for the journey thus far and look forward with anticipation to all that God has ahead for Barnabas Sacramento.
